Ingrina to Zavial
A short coastal stretch between two coves, walkable in just over an hour, with a place to stop for refreshments at the end.
Hiking & Nature
Villa Sonata is located on the edge of the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park. From here, you can reach sections of the Fishermen’s Trail in just a few minutes.
The southwest of Portugal is one of the few largely undeveloped stretches of coast in Europe. Cliffs, dunes, storks nesting on rocky spires, and in spring, a bloom that covers the entire macchia.

Rota Vicentina
The Trilho dos Pescadores is the coastal section of the Rota Vicentina. It links coves and fishermen’s paths between Alentejo and Sagres over several stages, often just a few metres from the cliff edge.
You do not need to plan a multi-day hike. From Praia da Ingrina, you can take single sections as half-day walks, returning via the inland route.
Four suggestions
A short coastal stretch between two coves, walkable in just over an hour, with a place to stop for refreshments at the end.
The southwesternmost point of Europe. Lighthouse, cliffs and sunsets that justify the journey.
A circular walk around the fortress of Sagres; flat, short, with views along both coasts.
Field paths through macchia and small fields, past the menhir and chapel. Suitable for early morning.
Best time
From February to May the coast blooms, temperatures are comfortable and the wind is consistent. October and November are quieter again, with paths almost empty.
In mid-summer, you should set off early. Coastal paths offer little shade, and the northwest wind that makes the heat bearable can mask how strong the sun is.
Sturdy shoes, water and sun protection are necessary even for short sections. The cliffs are unsecured in many places.
The off-season is the best time along this coast. Please enquire about your preferred period without obligation.
