With Children

A house where children are allowed to be loud.

No neighbours just behind the wall, no pool area with quiet hours. Three bedrooms, an enclosed garden and a pool shallow enough for the little ones and long enough for the older children.

Family holidays rarely fail because of the beach but often because of the accommodation: rooms too small, too much consideration, not enough space for luggage, sand toys and wet towels. Villa Sonata is a whole house, and you notice that from the very first evening.

For Families

What is simpler here.

Separate sleeping areas

Two rooms upstairs, one downstairs. The children can go to bed early without ending the adults’ evening.

Enclosed property

The garden and pool area are fenced, so no one can step onto the street within two steps.

Proper kitchen

With dishwasher, oven and enough crockery. When travelling with children, you cook for yourself more often than you expect.

Washing machine

Sand, ice cream and sea water leave their marks. After two weeks this is no longer a detail.

Shallow bays nearby

Praia da Ingrina and Salema slope gently into the water, both are suitable for smaller children.

Quiet location

No through traffic, no bar next door. Even in August it stays quiet in the evenings.

The Pool

Honestly: a pool is still a pool.

The pool measures 8 × 4 metres and is open to the terrace. It is not fenced and has no cover. For families with small children this means supervision is mandatory, as in any holiday home with a private pool.

On the other hand, the water belongs to you all day. No crowd in the afternoon, no groups of strangers, no opening hours. You should bring arm floats and toys with you or buy them in Vila do Bispo.

Excursions

What works well with children.

The boat trips from Sagres and Lagos for dolphin watching are a safe bet, provided the weather is favourable and the children are sea-sick resistant. In Lagos there is also an interactive science museum for rainy days.

An afternoon at Cabo de São Vicente is also worthwhile with children: lighthouse, cliffs, wind and a sausage stand make a good end to a day at the beach.

For short walks the coastal path between the bays is suitable. The sections are short, flat and can be stopped at any time.
