Praia da Ingrina & Neighbouring Coves
One cove on foot, a dozen by car.
Praia da Ingrina is the local beach: small, sheltered by rocks and gently sloping into the water. For more space, you can drive about ten minutes further.
On the west Algarve coast, there are two types of beaches: sheltered coves on the south coast where the water is calm and warmer, and the open Atlantic beaches to the west with waves and wind. You can reach both from Villa Sonata.
The local beach
Praia da Ingrina, 1.6 kilometres away.
A small cove between rocks, with light sand and a shallow entry. When the sea is calm, there is an area on the left side where you can snorkel. The beach has a car park and a simple café.
It is about an 18-minute walk, mostly gently downhill. The return walk can be tiring on hot afternoons, so many guests use the car or walk early in the morning.

All of the following beaches can be reached by car in approximately five to twenty minutes.
Praia do Barranco
Small, natural cove at the end of a country lane, with little infrastructure but plenty of peace.
Praia da Salema
Long sandy beach in front of the fishing village, with cafés, car park and shallow water suitable for children.
Praia do Beliche
Between Sagres and Cabo de São Vicente, accessible via steps, impressively surrounded by cliffs.
Praia do Tonel
The Atlantic beach near Sagres: waves, wind and one of the better spots to watch the sunset.
Praia da Mareta
The sheltered cove within Sagres itself, easily accessible and usually calm even in stronger winds.
Important to know
Atlantic, not Mediterranean.
The water on the west Algarve coast is cooler than the Mediterranean; pleasant in midsummer, but a brief adjustment is needed in spring and autumn. However, it is clear and clean.
Please pay attention to flags and tides: some coves are significantly smaller at high tide than at low tide. Children should not enter the water unsupervised on unpatrolled beaches.
In July and August, it is advisable to arrive early at the beach. The car parks at the small coves are often full by around 11 am.
